Lucan United Fc have applied for a Sports Capital grant and planning permision to build an all-weather facility in Airlie Heights/Dodsboro Lucan. If a grant is obtained Lucan hope to build early next year once consultation with the residents is completed and protocols on the use of the facility agreed.
The Sports grant is critical to the building of such a facility and until this is obtained their will be no movement on the all-weather. The club have applied for planning permission with criteria stated including 9:30 curfew and no parking up around the all-weather location. This will be manged due to the co-operation of Scoil Mhuire who are allowing Lucan to use their carpark to ensure their will be as little impact on our neighbours as possible. As this a repalcement pitch and not an extra pitch the volume of traffic into the Woodview/Dodsboro area will remain the same during match day and not increase due to this pitch.
We have already started a pilot run on the parking intiative and although its early days it has already shown major improvement on the amount of cars parked on the street. The biggest issue here is communicating to people to use the school car park which is taking time but we hope to have evryone on board by the start of next season on the parking intiative. We also plan to have a car park attended next season to ensure help this process.
As the new facility will have lights we have worked with the light technicians to ensure no light splillage outside the pitch and we are happy that will be the case and no neighbours will be impacted when the all-weather goes into place. It was also brought to our attention that this pitch may impact the value of the houses around the facility. We have followed up on this and spoke to the local estate agents and they have assured us that this not the case. The market price will not be affected by this facility.
This all-weather pitch will allow our kids to play football during the winter with out the frustartion of matches being called off on a regular basis due to the weather being bad all week resulting in the pitches flooded at the weekend. This will stop the end of season madness of trying to get our home games played over such a short period of time. It will also help with trying to improve the kids skills during training session as it will be a good surface for them to train on.
As we move forward with this process we will keep our members and neighbours informed of developments and will be available for anyone who would like more information.
